Taiwan Scholarship

The Taiwan Scholarship Program was established by the Ministry of Education (MOE) to encourage outstanding international students to undertake degree programs in Taiwan. In addition to providing study opportunities for a wide range of disciplines at Taiwan’s universities and colleges, this program also aims to:

  1. Promote knowledge, understanding and friendship between people in Taiwan and in countries around the world.
  2. Provide opportunities to increase academic and educational links with international institutions of higher learning.
  3. Develop outstanding professionals and experts to meet the needs of the global society.

    Scholarships:
    Undergraduate program: maximum 4 years.
    Master’s program: maximum 2 years.
    Doctoral program: maximum 4 years.

    Amount:
    Undergraduate Scholarship: a monthly stipend of TWD 15,000 (Equivalent to 655 CAD, subject to currency rate fluctuation)
    Master’s or Doctoral Scholarship: a monthly stipend of TWD 20,000 (Equivalent to 874 CAD, subject to currency rate fluctuation)

    1. Applicants must be a foreign national with a secondary school graduation diploma or a post-secondary diploma or degree, and an excellent academic record, and be of good moral character.
    2. A person in any of the following categories is ineligible to apply:
      -A R.O.C. national or an overseas Chinese student.
      -A person who already has and is continuing to maintain student status at any university or tertiary college in Taiwan or a person who has already registered to begin studies at a university/college in Taiwan. This restriction does not apply to a student who will complete a degree and graduate that year. They may apply for a Taiwan Scholarship to pursue a higher degree.
      -A person who has already studied in Taiwan for a degree at the same level as the one in which they intend to enroll.
      -An exchange student or dual/joint degree student who has been admitted to a university/college in Taiwan in accordance with an academic cooperation agreement between the university/college in Taiwan and an overseas university/college.
      -A person who has held a Taiwan Scholarship for a total of five years.
      -A person who has ever had a Taiwan Scholarship or MOE Huayu Enrichment Scholarship revoked.
      -A person who has received any other scholarship or subsidy from any Taiwan Government agency or any education institution in Taiwan. This does not include any subsidy provided for Taiwan Scholarship recipients by a university/college to cover the outstanding amount of their tuition and other fees if the total amount exceeds the maximum amount paid by the scholarship.
    3. Applicants for a Taiwan Scholarship must apply directly to the university/college for admission. Each university/college sets its own application deadline.
    1. One copy of the completed application form.
    2. One photocopy of applicant’s passport or other nationality certificates.
    3. One photocopy of the highest-level diploma and a complete grade transcript. (These documents must be authenticated by a Taiwan overseas representative office if issued by international educational institutions.)
    4. Applicants should apply directly for admission within the deadlines specified by each university/college and provide a copy of supporting admission application materials (e.g. photocopies of application forms for a degree program at universities/colleges in Taiwan or a copy of the application fee receipt, or the reply letter or e-mail from the school which the applicant has applied to). Please noted, the exact academic year that applicants would be enrolled as full-time students at these institutions must be clearly specified on these documents.
    5. Two letters of reference, signed and sealed in envelopes (i.e. principals, professors, or supervisors). Photo copies and email submissions of letters of recommendation will not be considered.
    6. A copy of a language proficiency certificate
    7. A copy of results or certificate for the “Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language” (TOCFL) Level 3 or above. (applicants to all-English programs are exempt from this rule)
    8. For applications to all-English programs, a copy of TOEFL test scores or other recognized English language proficiency exams or degrees awarded in English must be submitted. English-speaking nationals are exempt from this rule.

    2. Apply separately for admission to a university or college in Taiwan
    3. Attend an interview conducted by the overseas mission
    4. Provide a copy of the admission notice received from the University/College to the Overseas Mission
    5. Successful applicants will receive a scholarship certificate from the Overseas Mission
    6. Arrive in Taiwan and register at the University/College
    7. Each University/College is responsible for distributing Taiwan Scholarship Allowance to students
